Things did not go well for the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday and, sadly for the program, that continued a disturbing trend. After losing an embarrassing 41-0 decision to SEC East rival Georgia in its previous contest, Butch Jones and the Vols fell to South Carolina by a final score of 15-9 and failed to score a touchdown in the process.

On Monday, Jones predictably took quite a bit of heat and, in the midst of his press availability, he produced a few memorable nuggets of wisdom. First, he indicated that a failure to score touchdowns was the issue.
Butch: We did everything to win the South Carolina game except score touchdowns.

Then, Jones said that he believed Tennessee played "our style of football" in the loss.
Butch: I thought we played our style of football against South Carolina.

It should be noted that, after much of the fury was over, Jones did come together with Wes Rucker of 247 to produce a full quote that isn't quite as damning.
Tennessee claims I misrepresented Butch Jones’ comments on the South Carolina loss. Here’s his full quote and my paraphrasing of it. pic.twitter.com/7T7SJlkfmo

To Jones' credit, that quote isn't nearly as insane as the original, but in the same breath, it is hard to imagine that the head coach at Tennessee is inspiring confidence at all right now. In fact, his "champions of life" comment still provides fodder for Tennessee detractors and his performance during the entirety of Monday's press conference won't do anything to dissuade those calling for his job.
