Four-star safety Maleik Gray has been committed to spend his college career at Tennessee since June. However, in recent days, it appeared as if Gray would be entertaining other offers, including a potentially enticing one at Florida State.
Now, though, it appears as if Butch Jones and his staff can rest easy, as Gray will not be visiting Tallahassee in the near future. Instead, he chose to reaffirm his commitment to the Vols in a statement to Ryan Callahan of 247Sports.
"I want to keep my commitment solid with Tennessee because I helped them recruit some guys, and they told me part of the reason they're going is because I'm going and they want to play with me at the next level. So that's why I can't turn my back on them and just walk out on them. I'm going to stay solid to my commitment and go from there."
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound safety from La Vergne (Tenn.) is a huge get for the Vols, simply because locking down in-state products at a high level is always important. Gray is currently listed as one of the top 100 prospects in the country and as the No. 6 prospect from the state according to 247Sports, and his sentiment seems like a very firm decision to head to Knoxville in a few short months.
