Bad news for one former Tennessee starter.

Tennessee quarterback Quinten Dormady will reportedly miss extended time due to a shoulder injury that could require surgery, according to John Brice.

Brice confirmed that multiple sources have indicated that Dormady, who began the season as the Vols' starting quarterback, will likely need surgery, which would effectively end his season as it will require a lengthy rehab process.

Additionally, Volquest reported through sources that Dormady visited doctors in Chicago in order to run tests on his right shoulder, which forced him to miss practice on Wednesday and Thursday this week. He is expected to travel with the Vols for Saturday's game at Alabama.

The junior has thrown for 925 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions during five appearances this season, which includes just one touchdown and five interceptions in SEC play, as well as a completion percentage under 54.0 percent in losses to Florida and Georgia.

Dormady's injury leaves Tennessee with only two active quarterbacks as redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano makes his second career start at Alabama on Saturday.

Guarantano threw for 133 yards on 11 of 18 passing during last week's 15-9 loss to South Carolina.

Tennessee will face Alabama at 3:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
