Brady Hoke's tenure as the defensive coordinator for the Oregon Ducks did not go swimmingly. The former Michigan head coach led one of the worst defenses in the country and, after just one season that included a failed scheme change, Hoke was unceremoniously let go from his position. Now, though, it appears that Hoke could have a new landing spot in the SEC, as Mike Griffith of SEC Country brings word that the Tennessee Volunteers might be hitching their wagon to him.
Tennessee is in discussions to hire former Michigan head coach Brady Hoke as an assistant coach on its football staff, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation.
Hoke enjoyed early success as the head coach at Michigan and, throughout his college coaching career, he has been well-respected for his work with defensive linemen. In fact, the Wolverines have thrived up front in the two years since Hoke left Ann Arbor and, even with a hat-tip to Jim Harbaugh, some of that credit should flow to Hoke's recruiting and tutelage.
The piece refers to Hoke's potential position at Tennessee as uncertain, but it would be on the defensive side of the ball. Until specifics are known, it is tough to evaluate the marriage, but Hoke is certainly qualified to be a position coach given his body of work and Tennessee could do much worse with a hire on the defensive side.
