TaxSlayer Bowl recap: Tennessee thrashes Iowa

Tennessee was absolutely feeling it in this game with a XX-XX win over Iowa. Everything was going the Vols' way in the first half to end the half with a favorable score of 35-7. Tennessee would score 10 more points in the second half after slowing down a bit and Iowa scored some late touchdowns, but it wasn't enough as Tennessee won 45-28. Now the Vols have momentum going into the Spring and probably impressed some Florida recruits watching the game at home.

The final: Tennessee 45, Iowa 28

The big plays:

Tennessee had a superb double pass play that ended in a 49-yard touchdown for receiver Vic Wharton with running back Marlin Lane as the passer!

This was just an odd play where the Iowa kick returner tried to avoid stepping out of bounds so he threw it forward inbounds and the whole thing was messy. There was an "illegal forward pass" penalty and it just wasn't smart football by any stretch of the imagination.

The stars: Tennessee QB Josh Dobbs: 16/21 for 129 yards and one touchdown, 13 carries for 76 yards and two TDs

Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd: 16 carries for 122 yards and two TDs

Iowa RB Jordan Canzeri: 12 carries for 120 yards with a long of 32

Questions: Can Josh Dobbs and the young Volunteers build off this performance for next season and take advantage of taking all the lumps from this season?
