Florida had beaten Tennessee five straight times going into the 1998 game and under the direction of quarterback Tee Martin ended that streak. It was 17-17 going into overtime and UT kicker Jeff Hall was the hero of the game after kicking the eventual game-winning field goal to make it a 20-17 game.

Florida would have a chance to answer on their next possession, but Collins Cooper couldn't hit the field goal to tie it and the Volunteers celebrated their hardest win of the season. They would go on to win the first BCS National Championship later that year propelled by this win.
