Tennessee is working on its own anti-satellite camp and it just might work

This is a novel idea!

Satellite camps are becoming the wave of the future. Every school is trying to schedule as many as possible and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh is the harbinger of the satellite camp movement. However, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones looks to be the man trying to lead a movement of his own.

Tennessee is flipping the script on satellite camps and is hosting high schools on its own campus rather than camping out on someone else's. Last weekend the Vols had Knoxville Catholic and Oakland High School —- home of the nation's top athlete in JaCoby Stevens —- and had the two teams scrimmage each other in their indoor practice facility.

Next week Tennessee plans to host yet another practice, this time Oak Ridge High School will be coming in to the facility with 2017 five-star receiver Tee Higgins in tow. Higgins was once committed to the Vols but has since backed off that commitment to further explore his recruiting options.

With a lot of football talent in the Southeast it only makes sense for Tennessee to do something like this. Why go traveling all around the country when most of the recruits SEC schools want are already in SEC territory? Have those recruits come to you and get a feel for your facilities as well as the staff and maybe players (if they are allowed at these scrimmages). Tennessee might just be on to something here.
