Texas A&M commit arrested for potentially the dumbest crime

He risked his college football career for this?

One recruit may have just jeopardized his entire college football career over what might be one of the dumbest crimes we have seen.

Three-star defensive end Alton Robinson (6-foot-3, 235 pounds, Converse, TX) just signed with Texas A&M a few weeks ago on National Signing Day, but it looks like he could have a lot of trouble before his college career has even started. According to KSAT in San Antonio, Robinson was arrested on Tuesday due to an incident involving his ex-girlfriend on February 9.

From KSAT:

The affidavit said the ex-girlfriend left her house around 11 p.m. to go to a Walmart. She returned around 11:15 p.m. and saw Robinson hiding in some bushes along the driveway and he came toward her car.

...

According to the affidavit, the ex-girlfriend said that she fell on the ground during a struggle with Robinson over the purse and injured her knee. She said she ran after Robinson, and he dropped the purse but took her cellphone.

So, Robinson allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend in order to take her cell phone.

Dude.

Texas A&M has yet to release any details about Robinson's potential status with the school, but past incidents involving recruits getting arrested usually lean towards the recruit being released from his scholarship. It hasn't happened yet in this case, but violence against women is an increasingly visible issue for football right now; it would be shocking if Robinson finds himself in College Station come the fall.
