It looks like Texas A&M has indeed granted Kyler Murray his release from the program, but Murray is not getting away too easily; reports are that Texas A&M has placed some restrictions on where Murray can transfer.

Murray has been released from his scholarship at Texas A&M. He can transfer to any school, as long as it isn't in the SEC or a team on Texas A&M's schedule over the next four years.
Interestingly enough, this does not impact two major schools that Murray could transfer to. As a recruit, Murray chose Texas A&M over Texas and Oregon, and both of those school are eligible for Murray based on Texas A&M's restrictions.
Either way, Murray must sit out a year before he will be eligible to play again at the FBS level. Murray appeared in eight games this season, passing for 686 yards and rushing for 335 yard.
