Former Ole Miss Rebel Laquon Treadwell will enter this week's NFL Scouting Combine being one of the wide receivers with the highest ceilings as a wideout in this year's draft class. One of the most hyped up, and often important, events is the 40-yard dash. Your 40 time can sometimes drastically improve — or sometimes unfortunately drastically affect — your draft stock. Treadwell reportedly wasn't planning on running the 40 on Monday, and later that day he confirmed why he wouldn't. According to NFL.com, the wide receiver simply hasn't had time to practice running it while he's been training in Miami, Fl.
"I've only had a week and a half here (in Miami) and want to wait 'til I'm at our facilities," he said via NFL.com.
Treadwell, who says he's planning on running something within the "4.4s or 4.5s," will run during his Pro Day in Oxford, Ms. on March 28. While it's acceptable, and a lot of times common, for prospects to opt out of running the 40, some draft analysts think it would help Treadwell to run at the Combine, including ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr. Kiper said earlier this week that having Treadwell go at No. 7 to San Francisco is a pretty a high pick, and may warrant him to run at the Combine if he wants to be taken that high.
We'll see if Treadwell has a last second change of heart but for now, it looks like we won't see him running over the weekend at the Combine.
