In the wake of the passing of LSU's live tiger mascot Mike the Tiger, Alabama linebacker Rashaan Evans was asked what he thought about entering the stadium with the live tiger on the sideline. Evans described it as intimidating and then went a step further, expressing his desire to see Alabama adopt a live mascot of their own.

According to AL.com Alabama did once house a live elephant mascot on campus. In 1947, homecoming queen Sue Donegan rode Alamite the elephant even rode it into a stadium of 25,000 cheering fans.
