SI drops way-too-early 2017 mock with a shocker at No. 1

Plenty of shockers here.

With the 2016 NFL draft in the books, it's never too late to take a look at next year.

Despite a solid draft, the Cleveland Browns have a bleak outlook for the 2016-17 season and could be in line for the top draft selection. If so, Sports Illustrated has the Browns pulling a shocker at No. 1:

1. Miami QB Brad Kaaya (Cleveland Browns)
2. Clemson QB DeShaun Watson (San Francisco 49ers)
3. Alabama OT Cam Robinson (San Diego Chargers)
4. Texas A&M DE Myles Garrett (Texas A&M)
5. LSU RB Leonard Fournette (Jacksonville Jaguars)
6. Auburn DE Carl Lawson (Tampa Bay Buccaneers)
7. Florida State OT Roderick Johnson (Cleveland Browns)
8. Florida CB Jalen Tabor (Detroit Lions)
9. Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey (New Orleans Saints)
10. Alabama DE Jonathan Allen (Miami Dolphins)

Kaaya over Watson?! Some mocks don't even have the Miami product in the first round, much less No. 1 overall. The rest of the first round plays out how you'd imagine, with Fournette going in the top five, McCaffrey dropping into the top-10 and Alabama loading at least two players into the top third of the draft.

Notable others:
12. Clemson WE Mike Williams (Atlanta Falcons)
13. Florida State RB Dalvin Cook (Buffalo Bills)
17. Florida State DE DeMarcus Walker (New York Jets)
18. Alabama OLB Tim Williams (Baltimore Ravens)
21. Florida LB Jarrad Davis (Kansas City Chiefs)
22. Tennessee DE Derek Barnett (Indianapolis Colts)
23. Alabama TE O.J. Howard (Minnesota Vikings)
30. Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield (Pittsburgh Steelers)
31. Clemson DT Carlos Watkins (Seattle Seahawks)

Cook falling to the Bills would be a steal at No. 13, but Buffalo has LeSean McCoy and former Florida State product Karlos Williams. Selecting Cook here would be an interesting decision.

Much like his tenure at Alabama, Howard's upside is incredibly high as he has all the tools to be an elite tight end. With a late pick, would the Steelers take their heir apparent with Mayfield following serious injuries in the past few years to Ben Roethlisberger.

There's still plenty of time, but this is a good starting point.
