Spring fever: who is currently favored to win the 2016 College Football Playoff?

Are a couple of teams too high on these early odds for the national title?

Spring games and practices always vary in importance from team to team, but one thing is clear: one injury in those games or practices can change the course of the college football season. With that in mind — before something big happens — here are the teams that are currently favored to win the 2016 College Football Playoff.

Over at Bovada, the current favorites are Alabama and Ohio State, both at +700 (7/1). It is interesting to see the Buckeyes at the top, as they lose a ton of talent to the NFL Draft between the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Of course, the Buckeyes still have many talented players on their team, and betting odds can be driven by teams with large fan bases. At the very least, Ohio State fans are extremely confident for the upcoming season.

No surprise to see Alabama at the top, as they are the defending national champions. The next two teams may be somewhat surprising, as Clemson and Michigan fall next in line at +750 (15/2). Clemson being there is not a shocker, but a LOT of money must be falling in on Michigan right now after they exceeded expectations in Jim Harbaugh's first season as head coach.

Probably the biggest surprise among teams in the Top 10 over at Bovada? Tennessee. Many people have high expectations for the Vols in 2016, but grouping them in with the next set of teams at +1400 (14/1) with Oklahoma and LSU is surprising. Being ahead of Florida State — who probably has an easier path if they beat Clemson and win the ACC — is also somewhat unexpected.

The full Top 10 over at Bovada:

Ohio State: +700 (7/1)
Alabama: +700 (7/1)
Clemson: +750 (15/2)
Michigan: +750 (15/2)

For a different perspective, here is the current Top 10 over at Vegas Insider, which has a very different order from Bovada. For example, Oklahoma is boosted from +1400 — its Bovada odds — to +700 at Vegas Insider, putting them just behind Alabama as the favorite.

Alabama: +600 (6/1)
Clemson: +700 (7/1)
Oklahoma: +700 (7/1)
Ohio State: +800 (8/1)
Michigan: +1000 (10/1)
Florida State: +1200 (12/1)
LSU: +1200 (12/1)
Baylor: +1400 (14/1)
Tennessee: +1400 (14/1)
Notre Dame: +1800 (18/1)

We will be back in a few weeks to see how the odds shift after spring practices are completed.
