Longhorn Lovers Disgruntled Over Arch Manning Benching
The University of Texas Longhorns came into this week atop the college football rankings as the number-one team in the country. That was largely thanks to sophomore quarterback Arch Manning who helped lead them to their first SEC conference win against Mississippi State on September 28.
Manning was starting in the place of projected NFL Draft pick Quinn Ewers who went down with an injury in week two, forcing Manning to take the reins. Many felt that even when Ewers did return from injury Manning should have remained the starter given his recent string of play. Since taking over, Manning has accrued eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.
However, Ewers was cleared to return to the field this week and as a result, has reclaimed his starting role. The decision led to mixed reactions from fans on social media.
"Literally, the whole fanbase would rather Arch start. This man had 3 turnovers last year. 2 before the Arch chants start???" one disgruntled Longhorns fan said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"I was excited to watch my first Texas game of the season tomorrow. Until... 3 minutes ago when I learned Ewers is starting in place of Arch Manning. I'll be back next season when he's the STARTER." another fan said.
