Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been hospitalized for more than a week while dealing with an undisclosed medical issue.

The university and Inge's family released a joint statement Thursday confirming that the 52-year-old assistant coach remains under medical care at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
"Tennessee linebackers coach William Inge has been in the hospital dealing with a personal medical issue," the statement read. "Coach Inge and his family appreciate your prayers and support, and we ask that you respect their privacy at this time."
No additional information about Inge's condition or the nature of the medical issue was released.
Inge was not on the sideline for Tennessee's 42-9 victory over Kennesaw State.
Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel hired Inge in 2024 following his two seasons at Washington. Inge served as the Huskies' associate head coach, co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach during their run to the College Football Playoff national championship game following the 2023 season.
A Kirkwood, Missouri, native, Inge played defensive end at Iowa from 1993 through 1996. He began his coaching career with the Hawkeyes before joining Northern Iowa as linebackers coach in 2001.
Inge's lengthy coaching résumé also includes stops at Colorado, San Diego State, Cincinnati, Indiana and Fresno State. He spent two seasons in the NFL as an assistant defensive line coach with the Buffalo Bills from 2010 through 2011.
Tennessee did not provide a timetable for Inge's return to the football program.
