The SEC makes a ton of money on athletics, but the team that makes the most may surprise you

The SEC continues to dominate the money game.

The SEC is dominant on the field —- and it's dominant at the bank, too.

USA Today got hold of the total athletics revenue numbers for the 2014-15 year and the Southeastern Conference dominates the list. Five of the top 10 revenue makers were from the SEC, and you won't believe who was No. 1

Alabama, Florida, LSU and Tennessee were also in the top 10, and No. 2 isn't a surprise:

Those five schools combined for over $750 million in revenue and Auburn was close behind all those top ten schools at No. 11. The SEC also has 10 of the top 20 schools —- we don't know about Vanderbilt since that is a private institution.

The SEC's poor sister? Mississippi State.

Surprisingly, the national runner-up in 2015 is only No. 39 on the list despite having such a strong and consistent football team year in and year out. Clemson "only" made about $83.5 million last year.

You can find all of the revenue numbers for each public school here.
