This one stat shows just how risky Jim Harbaugh's recruiting strategy is

Harbaugh might be going a little overboard with 2017 recruiting.

Jim Harbaugh has sort of taken the world by storm with the way he has been recruiting at Michigan. Not only has Harbaugh been getting top recruits, but he's been successful at invading SEC territory to do so.

Of course, there have been some drawbacks to the way Harbaugh has been recruiting, and this one stat shows just exactly why. According to 247Sports, Harbaugh has already made offers to 208 recruits in the 2017 class.

Two hundred and eight!

If you are wondering why Michigan had such a heavy string of decommitments towards the end of the 2016 cycle, this stat shows exactly why. Harbaugh will offer almost any recruit he thinks he can get his hands off, and a lot of recruits will take him up on that offer. However, over the course of the year, more and more recruits will commit to the Wolverines, meaning a lot of the previous commits may start to doubt if they are actually a fit with the school.

Harbaugh is not the only coach that likes to throw out offers; Alabama's Nick Saban is second in offers made to the 2017 class, as the Crimson Tide coach has made 156 offers so far. That's still far behind where Harbaugh is, but it is definitely a strategy that is prevalent among some of the top programs.
