College athletes sometimes run afoul of the law under strange circumstances and two members of the Syracuse football team recently fell victim to this phenomenon.
Stephen Bailey of Syracuse.com brings word of the news that freshmen safety Devon Clarke and defensive end Jaquwan Nelson were arrested and charged with both burglary and grand larceny.
The crime was reportedly committed on Dec. 26, 2016 and the players were charged with lifting two pairs of "Yeezy" boots, as well as a PlayStation 4 and a laptop computer. Further specifics are as follows:
"During the investigation, an SPD detective determined that Nelson and Clarke were responsible for entering a South Campus residence at 241 Winding Ridge Road and for stealing the property. The "Yeezy" boots retail for several hundred dollars.
Nelson and Clarke were held at the Onondaga County Justice Center before being released."
This is, of course, mind-blowingly dumb and both players should be disciplined accordingly. At this point, both Clarke and Nelson appear to remain on the Syracuse football team but this type of behavior can't go unnoticed and it will be interesting to see how Dino Babers handles the situation moving forward.
"Yeezy" boots are both popular and expensive but that probably shouldn't serve as a defense when this duo faces criminal action.
