We usually only go three teams for our upset alert, but with how great Week 3 is in college football, three wasn't enough; we needed five.
This week's upset alert will actually omit a couple of the biggest matchups: Louisville vs. Florida State and Oklahoma vs. Ohio State aren't here, as both matchups are close enough where you could really consider it not much of an upset either way. Both underdogs are also at home, so that helps.
And with that in mind, we go to the five teams that need to be careful of an upset in Week 3.
No. 6 Houston
Sept. 15 at Cincinnati
Houston quarterback Greg Ward Jr. has been cleared for this game, so the Cougars don't have to worry about that. However, Cincinnati was one of the teams that gave Houston their best games last season, as Houston only beat the Bearcats 33-30 en route to a 13-1 season.
That game was at home in Houston. Will a game on the road — on Thursday — make a bigger impact? We will see.
No. 1 Alabama
Sept. 17 at Ole Miss
Remember when Ole Miss was up 28-6 on Florida State? Yeah, fun times.
Ole Miss will be going for their third consecutive win over Alabama, which is something a team hasn't done over a Nick Saban coached squad since Saban was at Michigan State. Saban wasn't happy with his team last week in a 38-10 win over Western Kentucky, to it will be interesting to see if any of that carries over to this 3:30 p.m. game in Oxford.
No. 16 Georgia
Sept. 17 at Missouri
There's no way around it: Georgia looked terrible in a near-fall to Nicholls State. They got pushed around on the line and were barely able to sustain a running attack.
Missouri has had one of the best defenses in the country over the past several years, so those struggles simply aren't going to get it done against the Tigers. Georgia is reportedly having Greyson Lambert take the first team snaps in practice for this game, so it's safe to say the Dawgs are concerned about their offensive output as well.
No. 13 Iowa
Sept. 17 vs. North Dakota State
This isn't just any FCS team vs. a ranked FBS team. North Dakota State has won the past five FCS titles, and they aren't afraid to pull an "upset" on an FBS team.
This game will be the biggest test to see just how the top FCS programs stack up with the top FBS programs. Considering that Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz just got a big contract extension, he might want his Hawkeyes to do well.
No. 25 Miami
Sept. 17 at App. State
No, that's not a typo above; Miami is actually playing in Boone, NC.
App. State nearly took down Tennessee in their season opener in Knoxville, and they have had a decent program over the past decade. Meanwhile, Miami is still adjusting to the Mark Richt era, and they are dealing with several suspensions and dismissed players. This one could prove to be extremely close.
