Viewership down 23-percent for College Football Playoff final

As if ESPN need more bad news about ratings and the College Football Playoff...

That is a 23-percent drop in viewers, and it apparently includes all forms of viewership from Monday night's championship game. ESPN's press release about the event touted it as the third most watched championship game on the network, with WatchESPN numbers adding great numbers to it.

However, this still presents a big problem for college football and for the four-letter network. Last night's game was about as good as it can get it terms of action and excitement, and even though the teams were from the same geographic reason, it has to be a concern to see the numbers drop so drastically across the board.

Hopefully this year proves to be the exception and not the start of a growing trend.
