Williams, the starting quarterback for the Washington Huskies, signed a new deal to remain with the program. Days later, he announced his intention to enter the transfer portal anyway, a reversal that immediately sent shockwaves through college football.

Now, the fallout is escalating.

Washington is expected to pursue legal action against Williams in an effort to enforce the contract he previously signed, according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. At the same time, Williams' longtime agent Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman Football has stepped away from representing him altogether.

Hendrickson also represents Washington head coach Jedd Fisch, adding another layer to an already complicated situation.

"I have made the decision to end my representation with Demond Williams Jr. effective immediately due to philosophical differences," Hendrickson said in a statement. "Demond is an incredible talent and we wish him and his family the best in their future endeavors."

Williams has since retained new legal representation. Darren Heitner announced that his firm has been brought on as legal counsel for the quarterback as the dispute unfolds.

Williams' path to Washington was already unconventional. He originally committed to the Arizona Wildcats in 2023 and enrolled there in 2024 before entering the portal and following Fisch to Seattle.

On the field, the move paid off. Williams won the starting job in 2025 and delivered a breakout season, throwing for 3,065 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 611 rushing yards and six more scores. That production helped elevate his profile and, ultimately, made his portal decision all the more consequential.
