Which college football team has the most powerful fan base?

College football fans have a lot of influence, but which team has the most influential fan base?

Have a powerful fan base means a lot of things in college football. It usually means you have more money, better facilities, and more pull when negotiating TV contracts and spots for the College Football Playoff. Remember Ohio State jumping TCU in the 2014-15 College Football Playoff? Yeah...

The website College Spun recently took a shot at naming which team has the most powerful fan base, and no, the answer was not Alabama, the No. 1 team in college football for about the past decade now. Instead, the aforementioned Ohio State was named No. 1, with College Spun citing Ohio State's massive net worth, ability to draw television ratings, and presence on social media.

No. 2 on the list was Notre Dame, which was powered by the school having it's own television deal with a national network. Notre Dame's tradition and connection with Catholicism has given it a nationwide fan base, and owning their own television rights is something that pushes them ahead of almost every other school.

The biggest surprise is probably that Texas was not in the Top 5, as the Longhorns filed in at No. 6. This was particularly odd, as Texas draws a ton of revenue, has tons of fans, and they even have their own television network; even if said network is performing below expectations, that is still an impressive asset that most other schools don't have.

1. Ohio State
2. Notre Dame
3. Alabama
4. Michigan
5. LSU
