WSJ: Ohio State has the most valuable college football program

In pro sports, one of the interesting things about franchises is wondering how much they are worth. Most NFL teams are worth over a billion dollars, and many NBA teams are now going for that same price.

But what if you could evaluate college football teams on that monetary scale? IUPUI finance professor Ryan Brewer took a crack at doing just that, analyzing revenues and expenses — among other things — to try and determine what every FBS team would be worth on an open market.

Brewer’s research concluded that Ohio State is the most valuable team in college football with a worth of $946 million. Yep, that is almost ONE BILLION dollars. Following Ohio State in the Top 5 most valuable are Texas ($885 million), Michigan ($811 million), Notre Dame ($723 million), and Alabama ($694 million).

Here’s a look at the Top 20 teams by worth:

1. Ohio State – $946.61 million
