Well, it took some dumb luck and probably some lousy play, but Maryland Eastern Shore managed to go winless for the 2024 baseball season. More specifically, the Hawks finished 0-48. It was the first winless season for a Division I baseball team since Coppin State in 2009.
Now, some of the games were close, with the Hawks losing by one run to Fairleigh Dickinson, two runs to Norfolk State, and three to Long Island (twice). But some of them were utter blowouts. That included a 20-1 shellacking at the hands of Merrimack, a 19-1 drubbing against Mount St. Marys, and an 18-0 pounding against heartless Sacred Heart.
But other than that, hey, things were great.

But quite frankly, who really cares? It's not so bad. Kids got to play baseball, in college, and it's the essence of the game and the experience that matter. Yes, winning once in 38 games would be nice. But they still got an opportunity that most everyone who laughs about and writes about and talks about never gets — and that would be to play Division I baseball. So just calm down, everybody.

Meanwhile, the rest of college baseball is gearing up for the College World Series, which is the sport's version of March Madness. Baseball America has more on that:
"The full field of 64 is released on Monday, May 27 at noon ET, an event commonly referred to as 'Selection Monday,'" the outlet wrote. "The 2024 NCAA Tournament is set to begin later that week with regionals on Friday, May 31. That sets the path to the 2024 Men's College World Series, which begins Friday, June 14."
So hey, see? Plenty of college teams have something to shoot for this season. Maryland Eastern Shore, however, is not among them.
