Siena head coach Liam Gleason died Wednesday at age 41, three days after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a fall at his home. The school announced the news with a tone that matched the shock felt throughout the lacrosse community.

"A sudden, senseless loss carries a kind of pain that defies understanding," Siena president Chuck Seifert said in a statement. "It's hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason's life."

Details about the accident have not been made available. Gleason is survived by his wife, Jaclyn, and their three children: daughter Kennedy and sons Penn and Tate.

Gleason had been the head coach at Siena since 2018 and was coming off the best year of his tenure. He guided the Saints to an 11-4 season, a MAAC Tournament Championship, and the program's first national ranking in well over a decade. He was named ECAC and MAAC Coach of the Year for that run.

Before coaching, Gleason was a standout at Albany — a rival of Siena — and began his coaching career as Siena's defensive coordinator in 2008. He later spent time as an assistant at Albany before returning to Loudonville to lead the Saints.

A program, a conference, and an entire sport are mourning someone widely regarded as one of the good ones.
