Professional cyclist Chad Haga's career has come to a sudden and painful end.

Haga, 38, revealed that he suffered a long list of injuries in a mountain bike training crash, including two broken ribs, injuries to both forearms, a collarbone injury and a collapsed lung.
The American cyclist shared the news from a hospital bed Thursday.
"Heartbroken," Haga wrote on social media. "This morning I gave a little mtb jump too much pop and ended my career early."
Haga also indicated that he suffered a significant impact to his head, though his helmet protected him from a potentially more serious injury.
"I'm thankful that my helmet did its job and saved my brain," he wrote.
Haga had already announced plans to retire from professional cycling at the conclusion of the 2026 season. The crash means that farewell has arrived several months earlier than he intended.
A longtime professional road racer, Haga spent a decade competing at that level and won a stage of the prestigious Giro d'Italia while riding for Team Sunweb.
After stepping away from road racing following the 2023 season, Haga successfully transitioned to gravel racing. He finished second at the Unbound Gravel 200 in 2024 and continued competing in major off-road events.
Earlier this month, Haga explained that he was ready to move on from the sacrifices required to compete professionally but hoped to enjoy several final races before retiring.
Instead, his career ends from a hospital bed.
Haga thanked the emergency medical personnel who treated him along with his family and friends who have supported him.
