Battlefront 2's latest trailer is just about teeming with new information

Virtually every underwhelming aspect of the first installment has been redesigned for the sequel.

The most recent trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 aired today, and it's so packed full of new details and confirmations on old leaks that even the smooth voice of the narrating John Boyega isn't enough to help digest it all. Between new game modes and returning old ones, more than triple the amount of previous maps, over double the heroes, and almost 40 different vehicles for players to pilot, the second installment of the franchise seems as though it's stuffed nearly full of entertaining content. Previous leaks have done much to soften the final reveal of all these new features, many of which have been correctly guessed due to hints over EA's Twitter or confirmations from semi-reliable Reddit sources. That said, it's certainly nice to have everything sorted for an official reveal by the developers - and there's more than a few entirely new reveals that players have been waiting to hear about.

For starters: we finally have our first line-up of all the playable maps in Battlefront 2. 14 planets and unique locations will be available to play in multiplayer, with locations varying from the cloning facilities on the ocean world of Kamino to the narrow corridors of the second Death Star. Single-player will also include an additional 4 maps, though whether these are restricted to the campaign or made available in offline arcade is another story.

Oh, and we almost forgot - each era of the Star Wars films is covered, with settings and iconic battles ranging from the Clone Wars to the Galactic Civil War to the events of The Force Awakens.

One of the more interesting developments in Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is that the game will be returning to the class system of the original 2004-05 titles. Although this change has been announced previously, this is the first time the classes have been detailed. Players will have 1 of 4 roles to play, each with its own weapons, abilities, and weapon attachments.

Assault - A classic hybrid with access to medium range weapons and minor explosives.

Heavy - Armed with a heavy blaster and shields, the heavy exists as a supportive role that can fortify a strategic position or punch through the enemy team's own defenses.

Specialist - This class seems to be filling the role of the long-range sniper. Specialists are equipped with powerful rifles capable of taking out targets at a distance and traps to protect their sniping nest.

Officer - Apparently officers can "command the battlefield," though how this works is up in the air as of right now. They can field special turrets, however, so there is something concrete to look forward to there.

The mechanic in which vehicles and heroes work has gone through some changes as well. No longer can they be found scattered around the map as rewards for players quickest to rush to them. Now, both are acquired through Battlefront 2's new "Battle Point" system, which awards teams that perform well with access to special vehicles and upgrades, strong classes like the Wookiee and Flametrooper, and, of course, the game's wide cast of heroes, will be expanded after release with the addition of Finn and Captain Phasma.

Star Cards have also gone through their fair share of reworking. These unlockable, equippable items now cover "everything you can spawn in with," and are found via Battlefront 2's new loot crate system, or purchased and upgraded with parts. Rarer cards obviously are more powerful, with the fourth tier delivering especially strong perks and traits for the player's class.

Last but not least are the multiplayer modes. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 provides access to a variety of different game types, with the traditional 20 vs. 20 modes taking the form of Starfighter Assault and Galactic Assault. Smaller modes like Blast, which is described as "fast-paced, close-quarters-combat," and Strike, a type of 8 vs. 8, objective-based mode, are also available. Then there's the highly-anticipated heroes vs. villains from the original 2005 title, as well as solo and split-screen modes available (the latter of which will not be arriving on PC, unfortunately).

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 launches in full on November 17, 2017 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The multiplayer beta, meanwhile, is scheduled to take place between October 4-9 and will include access to four maps and a handful of official game modes.
