Call of Duty: WWII's Beta event goes live today (for PS4 pre-orders)

Call of Duty: WWII's announcement incited feelings of cautious excitement and extreme skepticism.

Call of Duty: WW2 marked a change for the franchise earlier this year when it was announced that it would be returning the series to its World War roots and moving away from futuristic, sci-fi settings. Many were unsurprised; Battlefield 1 had already shifted the FPS genre's attention back to the early to mid-20th century global conflicts, and it seemed inevitable for Call of Duty to follow suit.

There's been additional confirmations since the initial announcement. Nazi zombies are expected to make an appearance, for example, as are features characteristic to WWII like bayonets and flamethrowers. For players who eagerly pre-ordered the game, access to Call of Duty: WWII's Beta event will be launching very soon. Here are the dates and times for the different consoles:

  • PS4: Call of Duty: WWII's Beta will be live from today, August 25, until Monday, August 28 at 1:00 pm EST.
  • Xbox One and PS4: The Beta for both consoles will begin on Friday, September 1 at 1:00 pm EST and end on Monday, September 4 at 1:00 pm EST.

Participants in the Call of Duty: WWII Beta will have the chance to play the new 6v6 "War Mode" in which players must cooperative with their teammates to assault and destroy or capture key objectives - or defend them from enemy forces. You can check out the trailer for the new War Mode below:

Additional game modes include Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Hardpoint, and will provide access to a series of new weapons like the Bazooka, MG15, and M1 Garand. For a more detailed list of features, you can visit the official Beta event page on the Call of Duty website, or check out the FAQ to find further information about the event.

Call of Duty: WWII is scheduled to launch on November 3, 2017 for $59.99 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (for which there is no Beta event, sorry guys).
