Diablo 3 rewards players as apology for delayed hotfix

Players will have from Friday night to Monday morning to level their characters twice as quickly.

As is the tradition with significant game updates, Diablo III's recent Necromancer update introduced its own host of problems. At the forefront of these issues was an exploitable bug allowing players to acquire an absurd amount of in-game gems - and players were quick to take advantage of it. While Blizzard hasn't outright released information on the disciplinary action taken on those players guilty of the abuse, we can be relatively certain that when it does fall, the punishment will be harsh.

To those who didn't exploit the bug, Blizzard has announced a double XP weekend as both an apology for the hotfix - which had been previously delayed - and as a celebration of the new Necromancer class, which launched in late June. Players will gain twice the usual amount of experience while playing the game on any difficulty for the duration of the event.

As for the exploit itself, a post on the official battle.net forums stated that the developers would be "rolling back Legendary Gem levels to the maximum gem level that would have been legitimately achievable prior to the patch going live."

The double XP weekend will begin at 8 p.m. Friday, July 14 ,and end on Monday July 17 at 1 p.m. The Diablo III Battle Chest is available on Blizzard's store page for $29.99 and includes both the base game and the Reaper of Souls expansion. The Necromancer class is also up for grabs at $14.99.
