New park-building simulator Jurassic World Evolution announced

The two signature features of the Jurassic Park franchise are the presence of dinosaurs and their inevitable escape.

There have been a lot of attempts over the years to bring the Jurassic Park films to the video game market, with varying ranges of success. Telltale's Jurassic Park: The Game signaled the return of the IP in 2011, some eight years after the last title released, and while it kind of fizzled out shortly after launch, the game served as a reminder for studios of how popular Jurassic Park once had been. With the success of the Jurassic World movie in 2015, it was sort of inevitable that we would see more titles arriving to the market.

The first of these is Jurassic World Evolution, which was announced recently via a trailer on YouTube. Take a look:

Now, there's a couple of things to note. First of all, despite the fact that it really looks like it would be a mobile game, Evolution is actually going to be releasing for consoles and the PC. In particular, it'll be launching for both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, despite being unveiled during Microsoft's Gamescom presentation. It's a bit of a pleasant surprise to those who dread the inevitable exclusives usually announced for consoles and is indicative that, perhaps, the trend is falling out of popularity.

Then, there's the fact that the development team working on the title is none other than Frontier Developments. If you're not familiar with that name, it's the studio that developed popular space exploration game Elite Dangerous. More importantly, Frontier also created the immensely successful Planet Coaster park-building simulator, as well as Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, which even today is hailed as one of the best of the Tycoon franchise. If there's any studio out there that can produce a remarkable Jurassic Park simulator, it's these guys.

There's currently on concrete launch date for Jurassic Park Evolution yet, though we can expect it to be out sometime during next summer, when it will coincide with the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom film.
