Nintendo to launch Splatoon 2 demo a week before official release

But, you'll have to act fast.

The Nintendo brand isn't exactly synonymous with shooter games. Given the company's dedication to releasing family-friendly titles, it's understandable that the desire to shoot at figurative representations of other people has never been met by the studio's products. The Splatoon series is as close as it gets, and though it doesn't quite scratch that murderous itch for simulated mayhem, the game was nevertheless very well-received by critics and players alike.

It was this positive reception that prompted the studio to eventually develop a sequel. Splatoon 2 is set to launch later this month for the Nintendo Switch - though players shouldn't have to wait quite that long to play it.

According to an announcement from Nintendo's official Twitter account, Splatoon 2's will be available for download as a short demo over the Switch's eShop on July 15.

Players will have to be quick to try it out; the demo will only be playable for four short hours, running from 6 to 10 p.m. EST? It will also only feature the game's competitive Splatfest multiplayer mode, which, in keeping with the series' previous installment, will provide a competitive theme. This time it's ice cream vs. cake.

Splatoon 2 will be available for purchase over the eShop for $59.99 on July 21. For more information, keep up with Nintendo's Twitter account, or visit the company's website to read more about the company's many products.
