Operation Hydra announced for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

There will be a bunch of unique game modes available.

In an announcement made over the game's official website, Valve has revealed the launch of Operation Hydra for competitive first-person shooter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

For those unfamiliar, Operations in CS:GO are special events that reward players with unique gameplay modes every week. During this Operation, the new modes are:

Wingman

"Put your friendship on the line in a quick 2v2 best-of-16 match on CS:GO's single-bombsite maps. The pressure is on - don't let your wingman down!

Weapons Expert

"How deep is your weapon pool? Play a 5v5 best-of-30 match with a twist - once you buy a weapon, you can't buy it again for the rest of the match. Coordinate with your team, grind the enemy out of weapons, and try to keep your best options available."

War Games

"Jump in to a match featuring unique twists on classic gameplay! At the end of the match, vote on the next war game to play."

This mode in particular is worth making note of. There's six war game modes, each with its own special mechanics. Play bomb defusal wearing bulky suits of armor, practice your aim in a deathmatch where only headshots do damage, collect dogtags from your enemies to score points - these are all examples of the kinds of unique game modes available in War Games.

Each of the above events rotates every week, meaning that they will only be available during their select rotation. War Games is the current live event in CS:GO, and if the livestreams on Twitch are anything to judge by, it seems like it's a lot of fun.

Also included in Operation Hydra are a number of new, community-made maps, as well as three older ones making a return from previous Operations.

Players will have the added option of upgrading their account with a single $5.99 purchase that awards them a selection of unique bonuses like weapon skins, a co-op campaign, and access to a stats page for their character.

Check out Valve's official page for Operation Hydra for a full list of all of the new events, maps, and bonuses. The event lasts until September, so players will have plenty of time to experience the entirety of all of Counter-Strike's new content.
