Everything you need to know about the Star Wars: Battlefront 2 beta event

Battlefront 2's beta includes access to four different game modes set across all three eras.

Electronic Arts released a new trailer today for Star Wars: Battlefront 2's upcoming open beta event that, while serving as an excellent reminder of exciting times to come, was nevertheless a little light on the details. To help orientate those players eager to try out the game free before it launches next month, we've compiled a short summary of all the important details - but first, here's the actual trailer:

When & Where

Star Wars: Battlefront 2 will be available to play during its beta event this Wednesday, October 4 at 4:00 am EST - but only if you pre-ordered the game. Everyone else will gain access two days later on Friday, October 6 also at 4:00 am EST. The beta will run all weekend and come to a conclusion on Monday, October 9 at 1:00 pm EST. Unlike similar events for other games, this event will run simultaneously across all platforms, beginning and ending at the same time on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

How to Play

There's no need to sign up for the beta. Just download and install Battlefront 2 when it launches via the PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, or Origin client, depending on your platform of choice. Unfortunately, there will not be an option to preload the game ahead of time.

What to Expect

Players will have access to four different game modes during the beta:

Galactic Assault - 40 players divided between two teams of 20 each in a multi-objective-based match on Naboo. The battle will take place between the Republic Clone Troopers and the Separatist Droids, just as in the events in The Phantom Menace. Unlike in the film however, the combat will take place in the streets of the city of Theed, rather than on the outskirts.

Starfighter Assault - Two teams of 12 players each fighting in a space battle over Fondor, an Imperial shipyard. Just as detailed in last week's "This is Star Wars: Battlefront 2" trailer, the battle will see multiple special ships and hero units unlocked as the game mode progresses.

Strike - A smaller, close-quarters-combat game mode in which two teams of 8 players each compete in objective-based matches. During the beta, Strike will take place at Maz Kanata's castle on Takodana, which first appeared in The Force Awakens.

Arcade - The Battlefront franchise's classic player-versus-AI single-player game mode, in which the player will be able to fight through the battle on Naboo against and alongside AI-controlled combatants.
