Summer Games Done Quick's charity stream has officially begun

The semiannual streaming event is here.

2017's annual Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) charity speedrunning live stream has officially begun, and if you didn't understand a word of that, don't sweat it. That's why we're here.

RELATED: Summer Games Done Quick releases 2017 schedule

Games Done Quick is a semiannual marathon streaming event that features the gaming community's top speedrunners as they try to complete video games as quickly as possible, voicing their strategies and random bits of game trivia as they do. Viewers who donate during the event can have their messages read aloud and can choose which organization their donation goes to. This year, Summer Games Done Quick is benefiting Doctors Without Borders.

Last year SGDQ accepted $1,301,000 for the organization, breaking records and raising more than their Awesome Games Done Quick Winter counterpart. As of the time I'm writing this the livestream has only been up for about an hour and has already collected $43,862, so it's quite possible for the event to reach an even higher amount this time.

Summer Games Done Quick will run from today until the finale next week on July 9th at 3:00 AM. Find the full schedule on the official Games Done Quick website, where you can also watch the stream live or on the organization's Twitch.tv page.
