Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide is free-to-play for the next three days

It's also on sale at 75% off.

Last week, Fatshark Games revealed the first trailer for Warhammer: Vermintide 2, a horde-fighting fantasy game in which up to four players can team up to fight off the tide of bloodthirsty invaders. To further promote this announcement, the studio has launched a sale for the first installment of the series, Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide. The game is 75% off at only $7.50, down from the original price of $29.99.

Coupled with this sale is a temporary, free-to-play trial period for Vermintide. For the next three days, players will be able to download and play the first game completely free. Be quick, however; both the discount and trial end this Thursday on October 26, 1:00 pm EST.

For those unfamiliar: Warhammer: End Times - Vermintide is a fantasy RPG set in Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy universe during the (somewhat controversial) End Times. Players can select one of five heroes to play as: the Witch Hunter, Waywatcher, Empire Soldier, Dwarf Ranger, or Bright Wizard. They can then be joined by up to three friends in a cooperative, horde-defense match in which the group must advance through a number of different locations in a style most similar to the Left 4 Dead series.

It's not exactly a walk in the park, however; players will be constantly beset by the Skaven: a villainous race of subterranean rat people that will repeatedly attempt to stop the player and his friends. Skaven, much like zombies, are only a threat in numbers, or when aided by any of their special units that - again similarly to Left 4 Dead - can and will ambush players with unique mechanics designed to punish those who wander off on their own.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2, meanwhile, is projected to release sometime in early 2018 and will for the most part feature a very similar experience, with one twist. The Skaven have been joined by Chaos, a faction of crazed, murderous marauders from the far North. Unlike the easily-quelled Skaven, the warriors of Chaos are heavily-armored and no stranger to violence. Players will be forced to band together in order to bring down even the weakest of the Viking-themed invaders, less they fall victim to the bringers of the End Times.
