Former four-time WWE Champion Brock Lesnar may be scheduled to face Universal Champion Goldberg at WrestleMania 33 this year, but the Beast Incarnate facing the WCW legend in the main event reportedly wasn't the original plan.
Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer revealed on a recent Wrestling Observer Radio episode that the original plan for Lesnar at WrestleMania was a match with Smackdown Commissioner Shane McMahon. However, Meltzer notes that even though this may have been pencilled in at one point, it probably was never going to happen and Lesnar was not interested in the potential match.
It should come as no surprise that Lesnar vs. Shane was on the table for WrestleMania if you recall the ending to the brutal Lesnar vs. Randy Orton match at SummerSlam last year. Lesnar F-5'd the Smackdown Commissioner after the bout, which, at the time, felt like a set-up to a potential match down the line.
It's also clear that WWE has wanted to put Shane in another major WrestleMania match after the success of the Undertaker vs. Shane match at WrestleMania last year, but instead of drawing Lesnar as his opponent this year, it looks like A.J. Styles is getting the nod.
Lesnar is scheduled to face Goldberg for the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 33 in the main event.
