Gigantic boxer remains undefeated on Alvarez-Kirkland undercard

Taishon Dong burst onto the heavyweight boxing scene an immediately became a sensation because of his enormous size at 7-foot, 286 pounds. He fought on the undercard for the brutal and exciting Canelo Alvarez-James Kirkland fight in Houston on Saturday night, and Dong won a majority decision to improve to a 4-0 record.

Dong, who's size and length is unmatched in professional boxing, didn't make the televised broadcast, but the clip above shows the fourth round of the four round bout. Dong doesn't really show the power he's capable of producing with his size and seemed bothered by his opponent Jamal Woods getting inside and negating his length. Dong repeatedly grabbed and clinched with Woods, getting warned multiple times by the ref to stop, but was able to land enough to earn the decision.

It will be interesting to see if Dong can improve from being a lower tier fighter and a novelty act to being a marginal contender. Dong moves reasonably well for his size, but he has trouble when opponents close the gap on him and doesn't have the hand speed to really throw and land a lot of punches — he also hasn't fought a bout longer than four rounds.
