With WrestleMania inching closer by the day, the card for the organization's biggest show of the year is coming together.
While Raw has set the pieces for Kevin Owens-Chris Jericho and Brock Lesnar-Goldberg at 'Mania, we're still not certain where the Smackdown brand is headed.
According to Cageside Seats, the plan may be for AJ Styles to match up with Shane McMahon and possibly adding Luke Harper to the main event in a triple-threat involving Randy Orton and the champion, Bray Wyatt.
Orton has vowed not to fight Wyatt at WrestleMania in Orlando, leading to a battle royale for the No. 1 contender taking place this week:
The story goes that Styles won't be thrilled with the sequence of events that followed him losing his championship to John Cena at the Royal Rumble. He was forced to compete in the Elimination Chamber, a triple threat match and now a battle royale just for a shot at the belt.
That could cause for some friction, leading to a match at 'Mania.
It'll be tough to follow up on what McMahon did at last year's WrestleMania:
SlamBuzz's take
What a great way to finally push Harper into the main event picture, while giving Wyatt the spotlight he deserves.
While that's great on one end, it would be another year of wasting Styles' talent. After a debut that ultimately didn't mean much against Chris Jericho, sticking him with McMahon pushes him up the card but doesn't give fans the classic match Styles is capable of delivering.
