He's one of the most recognizable people in professional wrestling: Sting, the Icon, the face of WCW, and now, WWE Hall of Famer. However, it looks like his wrestling days are finally over, as Sting finally announced his retirement on Saturday night at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Sting came to national prominence in the 1980s as part of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), captivating crowds with his look and unbelievable charisma. He was later legitimized in the 90s as the face of WCW in the 90s as his now-classic crow character with the black-and-white facepaint, baseball bat, and dare-devil entrance of rappelling from the rafters.
When WCW went out of business in 2001, Sting didn't stop wrestling. He later joined the promotion Total Nonstop Action (TNA), and finally joined the WWE in 2015. He wrestled three matches under the WWE umbrella, with his last match being for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in September against Seth Rollins. It was in that match that the venerable superstar suffered a neck injury that would lead to his retirement announcement on Saturday.
What's next for Sting? Well as the Icon would say, the only thing that is sure about Sting, is that nothing's for sure.
