WWE wanted to bring in a huge star for WrestleMania, but were reportedly turned down for this reason

This would have been awesome.

It's no secret that WWE is all about getting the biggest names to appear at WrestleMania, so it should come as no surprise that WWE reportedly tried to get UFC star Conor McGregor to appear at WrestleMania 33 in Orlando.

Obviously, WWE wasn't able to land McGregor, and it reportedly came down to financial reasons.

Via Cagesideseats:

"WWE wanted Conor McGregor for WrestleMania 33 but couldn't come to terms on a financial agreement."

What WWE had in mind for McGregor isn't immediately clear, though, but one would think WWE would have liked to use him in a way similar to Ronda Rousey's interaction with The Rock. Especially when you consider how good McGregor is on the mic.

It's interesting, too, that the reported reasoning as to why McGregor and WWE couldn't come to a final agreement is similar to the reported issues between the Shaq and Big Show match at WrestleMania.
