The Stampeders announced the death of their former player, who spent five seasons with the organization before making Calgary his home after football.
A native of Ohio, Galbos played college football at Ohio State and was a member of the Buckeyes' 1970 national championship team.
Washington selected him in the 1973 NFL Draft, but Galbos instead began his professional career in the Canadian Football League.
He initially signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders before being traded to Calgary ahead of his rookie season.
Galbos played for the Stampeders from 1973-77 and became an important part of their backfield, often serving as the lead blocker for Canadian Football Hall of Famer Willie Burden.
Burden rushed for a franchise-record 1,896 yards in 1975 with Galbos helping clear the way.
Galbos contributed plenty himself. He rushed for 1,244 yards and three touchdowns during his time in Calgary while adding 172 receptions for 2,016 yards and eight receiving scores.
Galbos finished his playing career with the Montreal Alouettes in 1977 and was part of the team that won the Grey Cup that season.
After retiring, he remained in Calgary, working in the construction industry and staying connected to the sport. He served as an assistant coach with the University of Calgary Dinos and was a member of the Calgary Stampeder Alumni Association.
