Charley Hull's bid for a first major title came to an abrupt and frightening end Thursday when she collapsed on the tee box at the fourth hole during the opening round of the Evian Championship. Hull, ranked No. 19 in the world, was playing alongside Ruoning Yin and Haeran Ryu when she suddenly went down before hitting her tee shot.

Medical staff quickly arrived to assist the Englishwoman, and the group behind was waved through while Hull received treatment.
After a pause of nearly 15 minutes, the 29-year-old managed to get to her feet and hit her tee shot. But moments after completing her swing, Hull went down again and was ultimately withdrawn from the tournament. She was helped onto a motorized cart with a flatbed stretcher and was later reported to be battling a virus.
Despite the scare, there was some good news. A commentator on Golf Channel later said Hull was recovering and chatting with others in player dining.

Hull was even par through three holes at the time of her withdrawal. The two-time LPGA winner has nine career top-10 finishes at golf majors, including runner-up performances at the 2016 ANA Inspiration, the 2023 U.S. Women's Open, and the 2023 Women's British Open. She has yet to capture that elusive first major but remains one of the most accomplished players in the women's game.
A standout from a young age, Hull won the Ladies Golf Union Championship at age 9 and rose quickly through the amateur ranks before turning professional in 2013. She has since collected seven professional victories, including two on the LPGA Tour and four on the Ladies European Tour. Hull has also played in seven Solheim Cups, helping lead Europe to victory in three of them.
Thursday's withdrawal is a setback, but Hull's long résumé speaks to her resilience. If her health allows, it likely won't be long before she's back in contention.
