Rory McIlroy came up one shot short during the U.S. Open, by bogeying two of the final three holes. As his majors drought continues, McIlroy received a lot of sympathy texts, in regards to how he choked at Pinehurst.

Ultimately, he didn't want to be bothered by anymore messages, so he actually decided to change phone numbers. However, by doing so he missed an important text from his counterpart Tiger Woods, who sent McIlroy a text of encouragement.
"I just sent him a nice text," Woods said. "That was it. I waited a week before I sent it. I wanted to let it calm down. I know he was being besieged by a lot of different things going on, and I just let it cool down. Then I sent him a nice text, and that's it."
Woods admitted that he waited a week to send the message, seemingly so his friend could have some time to cool off after his meltdown.
When asked to describe what he said in the text, Woods told reporters what he wrote to McIlroy, "'I'm your friend.' I know this is a difficult moment. We've all been there as champions. We all lose. Unfortunately, it just happened, and the raw emotion of it, it's still there, and it's going to be there for, I'm sure, some time."
"The faster he's able to get back on a horse and get back into contention, like he did last week," Woods stated. "The better it is for him."
That is to say, most recently, McIlroy finished tied for fourth place at the Scottish Open (-2), so he is still searching for his first major victory since 2014 when he won the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club as a 25-year-old. Now, at 35 years old, the four-time major champion is currently the second ranked golfer in the world despite not winning one in the last decade.
