Tiger Woods can finally swing a club again. Just don't mistake that for a comeback.

Woods told ESPN's Scott Van Pelt on Tuesday night that he's been cleared to hit only short and mid irons as he continues his recovery from back surgery. That conversation came before his Jupiter Links GC team dropped an 8-3 decision to New York GC in TGL play, where Woods is both a co-owner and player.
"I've been cleared to hit, basically, short irons and mid irons," Woods said. "I haven't gone any beyond that."
The reality, as Woods laid it out, is that this is still very much a long game. He hasn't played a full four rounds of professional golf since the 2024 Masters, and when he does return, rust is inevitable.
"I'll have been away from the game for a year and a half," Woods said. "So I'm gonna be pretty rusty. My prep is gonna have to be different. I've had to stay a lot more patient with myself. I get sore faster now because I'm 50. And that happens."
Woods, now eligible for the PGA Tour Champions, also acknowledged the rankings reality. Without competitive reps, he's in danger of sliding out of the world rankings altogether.
He did, however, sound energized when discussing Brooks Koepka's return to the PGA Tour after his LIV Golf stint.
"It's incredible for the tour," Woods said. "Fans want to see the best play against the best."
Koepka will forfeit equity and bonuses under the tour's returning member rules, but Woods had no issue with that.
"It's a meritocracy," he said. "If he's good, he's good."
As for Woods himself, the message was clear. He's swinging again. He's not rushing anything. And the finish line is still a long way off.
