Dumaray Iles, 34, was taken into custody without incident Oct. 7 at Delaware Park Racetrack in Wilmington, according to a Thursday announcement from the U.S. Marshals Service.

Iles was wanted by the Virgin Islands Police Department on charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and mayhem. The charges stem from a Nov. 27, 2025, shooting in Golden Rock, Christiansted, on St. Croix, authorities said.

The search eventually brought investigators from the Caribbean to the Philadelphia area and then to the racetrack.

Virgin Islands police requested assistance from the Marshals' Florida/Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force on Aug. 4. Working with Homeland Security Investigations, authorities determined that Iles had left the territory for Philadelphia in May 2026.

On Sept. 30, investigators received information that he was working at Delaware Park. Marshals in the Virgin Islands contacted their Delaware counterparts, and the Delaware First State Fugitive Task Force located and arrested him at the track.

"Those wanted for violent crimes should understand that crossing state lines or traveling thousands of miles will not stop the U.S. Marshals Service from pursuing them," said Kwesi R. Howard, U.S. marshal for the District of the Virgin Islands.

The release did not provide details about the shooting victim or what preceded the alleged attack.

At the time of the announcement, Iles was being held at the Howard R. Young Correctional Facility in Wilmington while awaiting expected extradition to the Virgin Islands.
