Alabama's catcher must have it out for his pitcher, judging from one very awful throw.
The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball team was taking on the Florida Gators in the second round of the SEC Baseball Tournament in Hoover, Alabama, withe game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out.
Gators infielder Cade Kurland was up to bat with a 3-2 count. The pitch, delivered by Crimson Tide starter Luke Holman, resulted in a swing and a miss and Kurland striking out for the second out. However, simultaneously, the runner on first tried to steal second, leading catcher Mac Guscette to fire a missile toward second.
He popped out of his catcher's stance, looked toward second base, and rifled the ball out of his hand. The result? Well, that is not exactly what anyone was hoping for.

Holman was hit by the throw down to second, despite ducking. We can't confirm exactly where he was hit based on the video above, but based on the nature of his lifeless-like collapse, we can assume it didn't feel very good. The good news for Alabama was that the batter, Dale Thomas, was called out for interfering with the catcher's throw.
Some on social media used the humorous play to joke about the current Crimson Tide quarterback depth chart. Heading into 2023, the projected starter is Jalen Milroe, who attempted 53 passes for the team in 2022, completing 31 (58.5%) for five touchdowns and three interceptions.
While the video gave some fans a good chuckle, it probably wasn't very funny to Holman. Nearly a month ago, he missed a Friday start against LSU on April 28 with back tightness. If the throw drilled him in the back, we can be sure it didn't help any lingering back issues. Holman got two more outs after this incident before he was pulled.
The Crimson Tide baseball team lost this game 7-6 in 11 innings. Holman finished with 5 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits.
