3-Time MVP Mike Trout Out For Season After Suffering Another Meniscus Tear

14-year MLB superstar Mike Trout will miss the remainder of the 2024 season, as it was discovered from a MRI that he has suffered another meniscus tear in his surgically repaired left knee.

Last week Trout was playing in a Triple-A rehab assignment for the Angels' affiliate Salt Lake Bees, when he left the game after two innings because of soreness in his knee, which he previously injured back in late-April. The initial MRI came back clean, but after the pain never subsided, he opted for a second one which ended up revealing the new tear.

This devastating news was announced via the Angels outfielder's social media page, as he shared the update to his fans.

"Since my initial surgery on May 3rd to repair my meniscus, my rehabilitation proved longer and more difficult than anticipated," Trout posted on X. "After months of hard work, I was devastated yesterday when an MRI showed a tear in my meniscus that will require surgery again - ending my hopes of returning this season."

"Playing and competing is a huge part of my life," he continued. "This is equally as heartbreaking and frustrating for me as it is for you, the fans. I understand that I may have disappointed many, but believe me, I will do everything I can to come back even stronger. I will continue to help my team and teammates from the dugout as we press forward into the second half of the season. Thank you for your support."

All in all, the 32-year-old has had a storied career, going onto be an 11-time All-Star, three-time AL MVP (2014, 2016, 2019), including being a runner-up four different times (2012, 2013, 2015, and 2018). Not to mention, he is also a nine-time winner of the Silver Slugger Award, which ranks him first all-time in the American League, while Barry Bonds (NL) has the most in MLB history with 12 awards.

In view of Trout's contract, he still has six years left after inking a 12-year/$426.5 million extension back in 2019, which will run into the 2030 season.
