Before Wayne Williams' father passed away over 30 years ago, father and son vowed to watch the Chicago Cubs in the World Series together when, not if, they made it there.

On Wednesday, Williams made good on that promise—-driving back home to Indiana from North Carolina to watch Game 7 on a cell phone at the foot of his dad's headstone in the military section of Greenwood Forest Lawn Cemetery.
"I talked it out with my boys forever," Williams told WTHR. "I let them know that I told my dad - we had a pact. When the Cubs - not if, when - the Cubs got into the World Series, we would make sure we listen to the games together,"

Williams said his father, a Navy veteran who died in 1980 at the age of 53, became a loyal Cubs fan while in the service.
"I think it was because when he was at boot camp at Great Lakes," Williams continued. "He probably went to some games, because Wrigley's brought the guys out there for these things and it was the closest thing to big-time baseball he'd ever seen."
When the Cubs finally won, it was an emotional moment, Williams said, and one he'd been waiting decades to share with his old man.
