Arizona has suffered a major blow and the season is just getting underway

The All-Star centerfielder will require surgery.

The Arizona Diamondbacks took a huge blow when All-Star centerfielder A.J. Pollock suffered a fractured right elbow in an exhibition game against the Kansas City Royals.

The injury occurred on a head-first slide attempt into home plate that will require surgery.

Last year, Pollock was sensational, earning a Golden Glove at CF and posting 20 homers, 39 doubles, 39 stolen bases and hitting 315/.367/.498.

After the game, manager Chip Hale said "We feel awful for A.J. We're a family. It's like one of your family members taken away from you right now."

There's no time table for when Pollock will return though this is the second time Pollock has injured his right elbow. In 2010, that injury kept him out the entire season after injuring it in spring training.
