A high-profile pickleball and nightlife concept tied to Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. has officially shut its doors just about a year after opening.

Solarium, a multi-level venue in Houston that combined pickleball courts with a restaurant, bar, and patio experience, is now permanently closed, as relayed by KHOU11 News. The announcement came quietly through social media, with its last posts dating back to February.
That's a quick turnaround for a concept that arrived with plenty of buzz.
The space, located in Midtown, was reimagined by Rex Hospitality, a group co-founded by McCullers Jr. along with several business partners. Their vision was to create something different. A sports-driven social hub built around pickleball, one of the fastest-growing games in the country.
It had all the pieces.
A large footprint. A prime location. A partnership with the Kirby Group, known for developing upscale restaurant and bar concepts. The venue even replaced a well-known local spot, Holman Draft Hall, which had been there for years. Oh, and an MLB pitcher behind it.
Still, it didn't stick.
The exact timing of the closure remains unclear, but the result is the same. Another ambitious concept that couldn't quite find its footing long term.
For a project with this much backing and visibility, the ending feels abrupt.
And it serves as a reminder that even the hottest trends need more than hype to last.
